Simon Krzic, the
anonymous artist
By Andrea López
To many, the simple act of taking a picture is a magical experience, it’s
to stop time for an instant: to immortalize it, to materialize it, to turn it
into a tangible memory. This way so, there are photographers who besides having
the skill to make that possible, are capable of reflecting all kinds of
feelings and vivid sensations in those images. Undoubtedly, the Slovenian Simon
Krzic is one of them.
In 2005, Simon founded the company SimonKr and since then, supported by
a team of approximately 20 employees (6 full-time workers and 14 technical
assistants), he produces stock audio-visual content. Nowadays, he has managed
to create a wide base with more than 22,000 videos and 3,000 pictures available
online in the webpages iStock and Getty Images, for which he is also an
exclusive contributor.
Easily one might assure that Simon's specialty is to capture the very
essence of any instant through the camera lens: the first steps of a baby, a
work meeting, the wind slipping between the branches of a tree, drops falling
in slow motion… No matter if it’s a daily moment or not, fictional or real,
either way Simon manages to make them unique and special for the spectator.
With major emphasis in filming videos, SimonKr captures not only landscapes,
animals, but also portraits, models or events, the extent of his portfolio is
such that includes almost every single thing that a costumer could need.
According to a testimony revealed in their official webpage, SimonKr's work
"transcends into art, which is an aspiration many try but can't reach”.
If you ever have wondered who is responsible of taking the striking
pictures used in several documentaries, magazines and advertising fences, here is
the answer, since surely Simon has been the person in charge of many of them. Therefore
his clients are international companies and recognized brands as Disney,
National Geographic, CBS, BBC, MTV, Air France, AOL, Gillete, among others.
During the Microstock Expo celebrated in 2013, Simon Krzic was
interviewed on receiving the MEXPO prize. Throughout the interview Simon stated
that in spite of possessing great tools with which he and his team are able to do
their work perfectly, it is not really necessary to possess such an expensive
equipment to take a good photo.
Likewise, he highlights that when he’s at work, he dedicates the
majority of his time to the pre-production phase, because for him, it is the
previous planning what guarantees that the final result approaches the most to perfection.
In addition, the iStock videoteam describes Simon as "the most prolific
videographer on the planet".
